Sphero, a Hong Kong-based manufacturer known for its programmable robots and educational tools, has reportedly experienced a security breach that has exposed the personal information of approximately one million educators and students.
Sphero is renowned for creating kits and robots designed for various educational purposes, including coding, science, music, and art classes.
A cybersecurity report from SafetyDetectives revealed that sensitive data, seemingly belonging to Sphero users, was stolen and subsequently published online. No reports regarding this breach are published by Sphero.
The leaked data, shared on a darknet forum, included user details such as
- full names,
- email addresses,
- birthdates,
- profile photo URLs,
- job roles,
- locations,
- bios.
The leaked data, could be exploited for scams or identity theft.
Apparently the hacker responsible for this breach allegedly discovered and exploited multiple vulnerabilities in Sphero's security infrastructure. These vulnerabilities enabled the attacker to steal sensitive data and personally identifiable information from the company's systems. Tthe hacker claimed to have identified additional security flaws within Sphero's backend systems, which allowed for extensive account takeovers.
