The Norfolk, Virginia Redevelopment Housing Authority (NRHA) reported a security breach of its network that occurred over the Labor Day weekend.

NRHA detected unusual activity on specific systems within its network, prompting them to take action by shutting down servers and notifying authorities to conduct an investigation.

To enhance security measures and protect their data, NRHA implemented updates to security protocols. Fortunately, no files were lost or encrypted during the breach, but it is suspected that certain information may have been copied.

No details are disclosed about the nature of the attack, compromised data or number of affected individuals. Per the reported mitigation measures, the attack is most likely a ransomware attack.

To assist those potentially affected by the incident, NRHA has provided access to Experian's identity theft program for a duration of 12 months. Individuals impacted by the breach were notified through mail.
