First Financial Security, Inc. ("FFS") reports an incident on behalf of Lafayette Life Insurance Company, on January 19, 2024, after detecting unauthorized access to its computer network. FFS, a national insurance brokerage agency, collaborates with licensed insurance agents to provide training and support for the sale of life insurance products, among other policies. This relationship necessitates FFS to handle confidential information pertaining to policyholders and brokers, which became vulnerable due to the cyberattack.

The discovery of the breach came after FFS became aware of a ransomware attack on October 17, 2023, Further investigation revealed that hackers had gained access to parts of the FFS IT network, compromising data related to Lafayette Life's customers.

This breach led to the exposure of sensitive personal information, including full names and Social Security numbers of affected individuals.

Over 105,000 individuals may have been affected by this incident.

Following the completion of their investigation, FFS began distributing notification letters to the individuals whose information was compromised in the breach.
