The healthcare network Summit Health based in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, a multi-specialty medical practice with over 2,800 medical providers and 13,000 employees, has reportedly experienced a data breach. This network, extends over 370 locations across New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and includes nine clinics in Central Oregon.
The breach is claimed by the LockBit ransomware gang which has been involved in over 1,400 international attacks. LockBit posted Summit Health on its dark web leak site, threatening to release all stolen data unless contact and negotiations commence by 8th of November.
The specifics of the compromised data have not been disclosed by LockBit, nor has the type of attack been confirmed, as there is no evidence of encryption or mere data exfiltration.
Summit Health's websites remain operational and there has been no public acknowledgment of the incident from the company. Summit Health has not responded to inquiries about the breach, and no confirmation or denial of the incident has been issued.
