Netflix breach - shows and movies leak online

Learn More

Netflix is grappling with a significant data breach, which has led to the leak of unreleased shows and movies online. The breach, discovered on August 7 and 8, 2024, has affected several high-profile projects, including upcoming seasons of the critically acclaimed series Arcane and Heartstopper. There are also unconfirmed reports that Stranger Things might have been impacted.

Netflix revealed that the breach occurred due to the compromise of one of its post-production partners. This partner's security lapse allowed attackers to access and leak unfinished episodes and movies online. The leaked material reportedly includes full, unfinished episodes, marked with "for internal use" and "property of Netflix" watermarks, lacking final visual and sound effects.

The leak has been traced to Iyuno, a prominent post-production company based in Burbank, California, that specializes in media localization. Iyuno, identified as a "Preferred Fulfillment Partner" by Netflix, is a significant player in the media localization industry, operating 67 offices across 34 countries.

Some of the most anticipated Netflix titles were affected, including:

  • Arcane season 2,
  • Heartstopper season 3,
  • Spellbound, a new animated film.
  • Plankton: The Movie,
  • Terminator Zero,
  • Ranma 1/2
  • Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld
  • Dan Da Dan

In addition to these series, upcoming Netflix features such as Skydance Animation’s Spellbound and Paramount Animation’s Plankton: The Movie were also leaked. The breach impacted not only Netflix but also other distributors. The season three premiere of Re: Zero, set to debut on Crunchyroll, and the first three episodes of Dan Da Dan, which GKIDS plans to release theatrically, were also leaked.
