Odessa Police Department is conducting an investigation into a data breach at the City of Odessa, Texas, linked to the former City Attorney Natasha Brooks' email.
The breach occurred after Brooks' termination when the council discovered her email was still active and had been unlawfully accessed with the actor accessing sensitive information, including personnel data.
The sensitive data was transferred to a private account. The number of compromised emails and data is estimated to be around 200, but the number of affected individuals is not known.
The city is exploring potential criminal charges against those involved in the breach, and the IT director, Michael Parrish, who failed to deactivate Brooks' email after her termination, was fired in connection with the incident.
The investigation aims to determine if the breach was due to external hacking, the former employee's actions, or internal negligence.
