It was determined that the Curry County server network was largely inaccessible, impacting all county departments. To ensure network security, swift measures were taken, and renowned independent cybersecurity and digital forensics experts were engaged to aid in the response and investigation.
The county has confirmed that the affected servers fell victim to a ransomware attack, specifically attributed to the Royal ransomware group.
The incident has been reported to the relevant state and federal agencies, and a coordinated team comprising state and federal experts will assist in securely restoring the Curry County network.
During this time, several systems and data remain temporarily inaccessible. While telephone service remains uninterrupted, email communications are currently unavailable. The response team is working tirelessly to restore operations, although an estimated timeline for full access and services restoration cannot be provided at this point. The county is prioritizing the return of services for public safety and public-facing departments.
Importantly, the incident has not impacted the integrity of the upcoming election or the vote counting process.
