Wayne County is reportedly facing a significant data breach after allegedly being targeted by the Interlock ransomware group. This incident was reported by cybersecurity researcher Dominic Alvieri.

"This looks very bad. 130 SQL databases, resident data, bank accounts, criminal records, orphan lists...(exposed in the incident)," Alvieri stated in his post, which included a screenshot from a dark web posting allegedly made by the Interlock group.

The nature of the exposed data and number of affected individuals is not disclosed.

The breach potentially exposed numerous databases containing confidential information. The ransomware group has threatened to release extensive data on county residents, suggesting that negotiations for a ransom payment may be underway.

This is a second incident of Wayne County in less than six months, with the previous one in October 2024 causing significant disruption to local government services.

It's not clear whether this breach is in some way related to the previous one.
