A ransomware attack on Abecha, the Singapore firm managing the Esso Corporate Fleet Discount Programme, may have exposed the credit card details of motorists participating in the program.

The Esso Corporate Fleet Discount Programme, a collaboration with ExxonMobil, has had over 18,000 customers since its launch in 2003. Abecha also operates similar corporate discount programs for Citibank and DBS Bank cards.

The attack, discovered on August 13, 2024, potentially compromised credit card numbers and expiration dates. Abecha acted swiftly to shut down the affected servers and engaged cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident. The firm also made a police report and notified the Personal Data Protection Commission Singapore, which is investigating the incident.

The company claims that other personal information, such as names, addresses, or contact details, was not affected. The number of affected individuals is not disclosed.

Abecha advised affected customers to monitor their credit card statements for unauthorized transactions and report any suspicious activities.
