The Singapore-based law firm Shook Lin & Bok reports it was the target of a ransomware attack, first discovered on April 9. The firm engaged a cybersecurity team and contained the attack by 2 AM on April 10th 2024.
According to a report on SuspectFile, Shook Lin & Bok paid a ransom amounting to $1.4 million in Bitcoin to the Akira ransomware group, following negotiations that reduced the initial demand from $2 million.
Shook Lin & Bok reassured that their operational procedures remain intact and are prioritizing the interests of their clients and stakeholders in handling the incident. The law firm claims that their core document management systems, which house client data, were unaffected.
Shook Lin & Bok has refrained from publicly confirming the payment of the ransom and has lodged a police report regarding the cyberattack.
