The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data in Hong Kong is currently investigating a significant data breach at the South China Athletic Association (SCAA), a well known sports club in the region.
The breach was publicly acknowledged by the SCAA via a Facebook post on Monday, 18th of March 2024, following the discovery of an "unauthorized third-party intrusion" into the club's computer servers on Sunday. The club shut down the impacted systems to protect members' data and initiated an investigation with the help of external cybersecurity team.
The breach resulted in the unauthorized access and potential theft of personal information belonging to approximately 70,000 members. The compromised data includes:

- identity card and passport numbers,
- addresses,
- contact information.
