St. Paul Public Schools (SPPS) has informed students' families and staff about a "data security incident" that occurred in February. The incident involved potential exposure of students' names and email addresses. This incident coincides with a suspected ransomware attack on Minneapolis Public Schools, during which hackers breached their servers and is probably caused by the same attack.

Although the full extent of the breach was not fully understood until mid-July, SPPS asserts that they have identified all individuals whose data might have been accessed.

The district has no indications of fraudulent use of personal information at this time. SPPS emphasized that no evidence suggests the compromise of passwords, personal email addresses, physical addresses, or sensitive information like social security numbers or payment card details due to this incident. To enhance security, all SPPS students received new passwords on Friday.
