Truist Bank are reporting a data breach caused by a security incident at Financial Business and Consumer Solutions, Inc. (FBCS), a third-party debt collection company that works with Truist.

Truist Bank, based in Charlotte, North Carolina, was formed in 2019 through the merger of BB&T and SunTrust and operates over 2,700 branches across 15 states.

The breach occurred between February 14, 2024, and February 26, 2024, when an unauthorized party gained access to FBCS' network, exposing sensitive consumer information such as:

  • Names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Account numbers
  • Dates of birth
  • Addresses

No details are disclosed about the attack or the number of affected individuals.

Truist has notified impacted individuals via data breach letters, which include specific details about the compromised information. Consumers are urged to monitor their financial accounts for any suspicious activity and consider utilizing credit monitoring services.

Earlier this year Truist bank was a one of the attacked organizations when Snowflake accounts were breached.
