Turknet, one of Türkiye's largest internet service providers, has confirmed a significant data breach affecting millions of customers. The company acknowledged the cyberattack in an official statement following initial detection of the breach on March 11.

A hacker using the pseudonym "hades_hgs" has claimed responsibility for the attack and is demanding a ransom of 3 Bitcoin to be paid within 24 hours, threatening to publish the stolen database containing information on approximately 2.8 million customers if the payment is not made.

The attacker claims to have access to "the entire Turknet infrastructure" and has boasted about potentially being able to "cut off the entire internet." Screenshots shared by the hacker appear to show customer database information with personal details obscured.

Per the statement from Turknet, the breach has compromised sensitive personal information of over 1.5 million customers, including:

  • Full names
  • Phone numbers
  • Subscription numbers
  • National identification numbers
  • Address details
  • Static IP information

The nature of the attack is not disclosed.

Turknet has emphasized in their communication to customers that financial information and user passwords were not compromised in the attack and no service interruptions have occurred. The company has stated it will file reports with Türkiye's Personal Data Protection Authority and the Information Technologies and Communication Authority regarding the breach.
