Yamaha Canada Music confirms being compromised by ransomware gangs

Yamaha Canada Music has confirmed that it experienced a cyberattack resulting in data exfiltration, after being listed as a victim by both the BlackByte and Akira ransomware operations.

The company did not disclose specific details about the intrusion but mentioned that it promptly took actions to mitigate the attack and is notifying individuals whose data might have been impacted.

BlackByte included Yamaha Canada on its list of victims on June 14 before the company was added by Akira ransomware on its leak site on July 21.

The increasing trend of double postings by different ransomware operations on a single victim may mean that collaborators of the ransomware gangs using tooling from both groups would eventually cause the data to be available at both crime groups and have them take double credit.

At the end of the day, the number of thieves makes little difference, since the data is stolen.
