The Clark County School District (CCSD) in Nevada, with over 300,000 students and 15,000 educators, reported a security incident impacting its email systems. Forensic experts were immediately engaged to inspect the breach and to ensure the safety of their email environment, while also collaborating with law enforcement investigations.

The preliminary findings of the investigation indicated unauthorized access to personal information of a specific group of students, parents, and staff. To counteract the breach, CCSD suspended external access to its Google Workspace and mandated password resets for all students.

The hacker group identifying themselves as 'SingularityMD' has claimed responsibility for the breach.

The situation escalated when parents began receiving emails from the crime group, alerting them of the data breach involving their children. These emails, informed recipients of the leak of over 200,000 student profiles, urging them to be cautious. These warning emails were accompanied by PDF files containing student data, including:

  • photographs,
  • addresses,
  • student ID numbers,
  • email details.

The hackers claim that the data they possess includes

  • emails,
  • birth dates,
  • ethnicity,
  • PSAT scores,
  • health details,
  • suspensions,
  • incident reports,

They also allege to have

  • financial reports,
  • staff salaries,
  • grant details from the district.

While some of the data to be confirmed to be legitimate, CCSD has not officially verified it. Parents who received the leaked data corroborated its authenticity, confirming it pertains to their children. The hackers assert they still have access to CCSD's systems and have threatened to leak more data unless the district complies with their ransom demands.
