Cleveland has temporarily closed its city hall following a cyber incident that has impacted certain systems.

The shutdown began on Monday, 10th of May as city officials launched an investigation into the issue. The specific systems affected have not been disclosed, but critical services continue to operate normally.

All internal systems and software platforms have been shut down as a precaution. Daytime 311 calls are being managed by after-hours operators. Only essential staff are present at city hall.

Police, fire, and emergency medical services remain functional and the 911 dispatch center is fully operational. Systems controlling local ports and public utilities are unaffected.

A city spokesperson emphasized the seriousness with which they regard cyber threats. The nature and scope of the incident have not been confirmed, and the possibility of a ransomware attack has neither been confirmed nor denied. Yet the action to shut down systems indicates ransomware incident management.

Update - The city of Cleveland announced that City Hall will "resume select operations" this Thursday, 20th of June 2024 starting at noon.
