Comcast reports data breach of third party exposing 237k customers

Comcast is reporting that 237,703 of its customers were affected by a data breach at Financial Business and Consumer Solutions (FBCS), a debt collection agency. The breach occurred between February 14 and February 26, 2024, and impacted 3.2 million Americans.
FBCS initially became aware of the breach on February 26, 2024, but the incident wasn’t made public until late April.
The breach exposed sensitive information such as:
- Names
- Addresses
- Social Security numbers
- Dates of birth
- Comcast account numbers
- Internal ID numbers used at FBCS
Comcast began notifying affected customers in August. According to FBCS, there is no evidence so far that the stolen data has been misused
Comcast has emphasized that the breach occurred on FBCS's network and did not involve any Xfinity or Comcast systems directly. To mitigate potential risks, Comcast is offering 12 months of free credit monitoring through Cyex to those affected(
