Personal information of more than 1,600 individuals may have been compromised in a data breach at Itasca County Health and Human Services, where an employee's email account was found to have been sending unauthorized spam emails.
Subsequent investigation lead to the discovery that the email was compromised and the mailbox contents were copied by an unknown party between April 7th and April 11th of this year.
The affected data includes
- names
- addresses
- Social Security numbers,
- specific information about the services provided by Itasca HHS to the affected individuals,
with one person's driver's license number also impacted.
While officials do not believe the information has been used fraudulently, they are advising those affected to remain vigilant against potential fraud and identity theft.
Itasca County Health and Human Services has taken steps to notify the affected individuals and has provided guidance on protective measures to mitigate potential risks.
