MNGI Digestive Health, a provider specializing in gastroenterology, is reporting an incident that occurred on 20th of August 2023 and caused a data breach that compromised the personal information of 765,937 individuals.

The breach was not publicly disclosed until nearly a year later, as the company worked to ascertain the extent of the accessed data and compile the necessary contact information for affected individuals.

While MNGI did not disclose specific details about the cyberattack, the Alphv/BlackCat ransomware group claimed responsibility for the breach in September 2023.

The breached data includes:

  • Names
  • Dates of birth
  • Social Security numbers
  • Driver’s license and state ID numbers
  • Passport numbers
  • Biometric data
  • Health insurance information
  • Medical information
  • Payment card information
  • Financial account information
  • Taxpayer ID numbers
  • Patient account numbers
  • Usernames and passwords

MNGI began sending written notifications to the affected individuals and informed the Maine Attorney General’s Office of the breach. The healthcare provider is offering 12 months of free credit and identity protection services to those impacted.
