Pearland Independent School District (Pearland ISD) has informed both current and former students that their personal information may have been compromised in a data security breach that occurred last year. The breach affects up to 55,000 individuals dating back to 2014.
The investigation into the incident began on November 8, 2022, when unusual activity was detected within Pearland ISD's computer network. The breach was officially confirmed on April 18, and by May 18, the district completed its review of the compromised data and identified the affected individuals, who were subsequently notified by mail during the previous week.
There are no deails as to the nature of the breach.
The school district officials have confirmed that unauthorized individuals gained access to their online security, potentially obtaining sensitive data such as:
- birth dates,
- addresses,
- medical information,
- and social security numbers.
There is currently no evidence to suggest that the accessed information has been misused.
In the notification letters sent to the impacted individuals, Pearland ISD offered 12 months of credit and identity protection services.
