On the 9th of October, 2023, West Texas Gas reported a data breach in which an unauthorized party had managed to infiltrate WTG's digital systems, subsequently copying specific files and erasing others.
In May 2023, WTG observed unusual activities within their computer infrastructure. They initiated an in-depth investigation to discern if the anomalies were a result of unsanctioned intrusions.
The investigation concluded that unauthorized party had not only accessed WTG systems but had also copied and deleted specific files. Some of these files contained private and sensitive consumer data:
- personal names,
- Social Security numbers,
- other personal identifiers.
The breach has exposed the data of about 56,000 individuals.
On October 9, 2023, West Texas Gas dispatched data breach notifications to all affected, detailing the nature of their exposed information.
